Ice Run Report for Octoboo 23, 2007
We had left almost 2400 pounds of Ice last time....and it was less than five weeks. We had hoped to find several hundred pounds of ice but our best estimate was maybe 165 pounds. That was one of the lowest amounts left we have ever had.
We
counted maybe 75 pounds of pellets in boxes, a bare 60 pounds of block left
and around 30 pounds in mass (last times leftovers).
Temperature was -40F
We loaded our 1600 pounds into the chamber and there was still a good amount of room.
We estimated we left a total of 1750 pounds and recommend the next ice run be in no more than three weeks.
Here's part of the crew finishing lunch and breaking down empty boxes.
You can see our portable "cooler cover" that we use to insulate the ice on the trip from Denver.
We also had a CU Film Studies Crew there, documenting the entire Ice Run Process....
We also got some shots of pretty nice crystals...
The filigree is about 2 inches long.
The
ice "fans" are over 4 inches across.
This
little "ice bridge" is about three inches long. It just formed there,
sticking out into nothingness....
There's another, smaller one just above it.
