Ice Run Report Pt. 2
December 31, 2007
We're back for round Two....with Assistant Tom and a repaired
truck!
At least the weather was a bit more cooperative.
We still had to break trail and take no more than 4 blocks at a time.
We had the ice left from last time plus the make up ice from General Air...probably close to 1000 pounds.
There
were some pretty good sized drifts here and there.....
But
we worked hard and the ice got through....
We
finally got enough ice at the shed to open the cryonic chamber and start to
load...
The current temperature is a satisfactory minus 100 F.
There was plenty of ice left, as this was not a regularly scheduled new run, just a continuation of the run from two weeks ago....
You
can see how the blocks higher up in the chamber get sublimed quickest....
Note how it leaves a pyramidal shaped piece left.
The paper wrapping was particularly brittle after sitting around for a couple of weeks.
There were some pretty nice crystals, tho.....
Perseverence
pays off and we finally get all the ice loaded into the Chamber and get ready
to seal up the facility.
Weshould be back in two weeks for the next Ice Run, probably January 23rd.
