Ice run Report for February 27, 2008...a Birthday Run.

It all started a week before, when a couple of reporters from the Yellow Scene made a special trip to the Institute to get a story for their publication, which comes out the first week in March.....

Watch for that.

A week later, the day before Bredo's 108th Birthday, we went up to celebrate.....

We had a crew of nine or ten, including hounds.

There was Clark and Dave for Assistants....

Teresa and Fred from the Chamber and Festival...

Barbara and her Mom (who stayed in the car) and her hounds...

A very nice photographer from the Daily sCamera....

And, of course me and my wonder dog, Gillian.

Wish there was some way to harness them dogs.......

You can see we had to haul over snow, up a hill, and over rocks.....

After we make a few runs up and down the hill, we have enough piled up to open the lid and start to shuffle the ice.

We put the small chunks on one side.

With the blocks on the other....

Then we cover it all with more blocks.

Eventually, we get the whole load in, with pieces stuffed in all the little nooks and crannies.

We had about 400 pounds left and added 1800 for a total of around 2200 pounds.

It was not possible to determine the exact temperature, as the thermometer was crushed during the last ice loading....

We had some pretty nice crystal critters and communities this time, too.....

And, of course, we had our Birthday party.....

Our intrepid reporter gal was none too thrilled with trying to quaff Old Grandad over Dry Ice....but she gave it a shot.

After we worked like dogs and celebrated like college students, we were ready to call it a day and head back to the office.

Next week is the Festival.....

Stay tuned.
