Ice Run Report
March 28, 2007
The day dawned bright and sunny....
...or so I assumed, since I didn't get up til a much more reasonable time.
I headed to Denver around 10:30 and picked up the ice at the Ice Place. The Manager/Supervisor/Bookkeeper/Loader/Worker/Everythingsincehestheonlyguy Guy wasn't there today, so I got to run the forklift and load the ice myself....ain't that a hoot? While I was loading, a Wheel from the Main Office stopped by to see the Guy. When he asked me about what I was doing, I gave him and earful on how he overworks the only guy that runs the whole damn place....hopefully my man will get a raise out of it...<Grin>
After I covered and tied down the load, I headed to Boulder, where I had a couple of quick stops to make before going up the hill to Ned. I got to Ned around 1:30 and after picking up my lovely Assistant, we headed to lunch at a new Eatery in town. Lunch was good, although a bit different than the usual Ned Fare....more, dare I say it...Boulderish? Remains to be seen if the place makes a go in Ned. Beats the B&G, anyway....which is where I usually get my lunch.
Once we got to the shed, we got right to work and took our data measurements:
Temp: -95 F
Ice Left (approx.): 460 #
280 # pellets
100 # block
80 # mass
Added: 1600 #
Total Ice (with4% shrinkage): 2000
We observed some pretty nice wet ice crystals....
We finished up and repacked the Cryonic Chamber for another months deep slumber.
We closed and locked the Shed.
We took a walk around the facility and noticed that the drift blocking the entrance to the Institute was finally small enough to get the door open. We inspected the inside, finding it much as usual.
We closed and locked the Institute.....
We headed back to Ned....
Another Day older and Keepers of the Dead.
Feel free to ask any questions you might have about the Institute or Grandpa.
